"Beach Baby Beach"

"Beach Baby Beach"
By, Cheryl Harwell Bailey

It is hard to believe, such a "country girl" like me,
was born in a place so NOT country.
"Santa Cruz" California was the first official
"Surfer" town in the U.S.A.

I was born in the 18 Bed Sisters Hospital
 on West Cliff Drive.
My parents lived in a little house on this same
very scenic, and famous "Drive."

Dad says they rode the "Great Dipper" roller coaster,
even when mom was expecting me,
spending many hours on the "Boardwalk."
 I still love roller coasters.

After we moved back to Bakersfield,
we spent every summer at the "beach."

Now our children & grandchildren are "beach babies."
One lives in a beach community with her family,
the other has a salt water pool.

I have been honored to be the person
to teach my grandsons to swim.
 All the "grands" are fearless!
