The "Harwells"

"Thank you Ruth, for your gracious invitation!"
"You are most welcome Cheryl." Many "Harwell's" come to visit the village.
We have not had them to stay in our home, but for some reason we feel compelled to ask you to stay with us. Cheryl, our Rector has invited you to read the scripture during Sunday Service, at St. Matthew's. "I must be dreaming," I thought. "How could this happen to a country girl from "Bakersfield?" But it did!

"Saint Matthew's Church of England"
Harwell, England

Bill and Ruth Wooten, were the unofficial historians of "Harwell" England. She took us on a tour of the entire village. I will forever appreciate the kindness of this couple.

The only "Harwell's left in Britain are tourists.
BUT,
This little village is our "Home!"
They dropped the "e" off of "Harewell" over 400 years ago, shortening the name to "Harwell!"

"Lord Nelson"

I was so excited when we passed the freeway
sign saying, "Harwell!" I whispered, "that's my name!" The tears began to fall. No stiff upper lip for this California girl.

After 1,000 years,  The village is perfectly intact.

After "Church," we sat down at "Bill and Ruth's table for a traditional English Sunday Dinner.
It's a long long way from "California Cowboy Cuisine."

Roast Leg of Lamb
Mint Sauce
Roasted Potatoe's
Peas
Yorkshire Pudding

I thought "Yorkshire Pudding," was like custard or "our" pudding. It's not. It's, made from scratch, puffy Dinner Rolls. Delicious!
.

Harwell is in "Oxfordshire.
