Today is an amazing gift!

A unique gift!
Since the first century B.C. 

every four years
 we receive an extraordinary 
package from Heaven!

It may not come in a box,
wrapped in pretty paper, 
and tied with a soft velvet ribbon, but
the greatest gifts do not come in a box.

This beautiful present  
is an extra window of infinite time,
A priceless gift!
It is for all creatures, great and small.

In this fast paced world, 
one more minute would be nice.

One more hour would be great!

One more day in the golden sun 
is irreplaceable!

One more silvery moonlit night
 is astonishing!

Twenty-Four new pristine hours,
on the calendar once every four years, 
is a miracle!

Cherish and celebrate each glorious second!
It is irretrievable.  
The gift? 
"Leap Year!"

Babies born on February 29 are  
"Leaplings!"

My precious mother, grandmothers, 
and aunts taught me to be 
a proper young lady.

The ladies I came from. 
Oh how I love and miss them, with every beat of my heart.

It was not proper to speak
 to a young gentleman first.

It was not proper to pursue 
a young gentleman.
Ever!

It was not proper to call 
a young gentleman 
on the telephone.
 Never!

It was not proper to ask 
a young gentleman on a date.
No matter what!

It was not proper to kiss 
a young gentleman first. 
Absolutely not!
(Plus if he kissed you, you had to marry him.)

It was not proper to ask 
a young gentleman to dance.
Never ever!

It was not proper to ask 
the young gentleman 
you loved to marry you.
Under any circumstances!!!

Except on February 29!

On this day it is the ladies 
who have the privilege.

Times have changed! 
Yet in some ways, not so much. 
If it were not "free,"
 maybe people would not take it for granted.
 Embrace this twenty-four blessing!
