"Cinco de Mayo"
By, Cheryl Harwell Bailey
I grew up in Bakersfield, California.
Can you guess what my favorite kind of food is?
"Mexican" baby!
I am not blessed to have one drop
of that fine Mexican bloodline,
but I have a passion for much of the culture.
Especially the cuisine.
I also love Mexican antiques, silver, decor, textiles, etc.
I adore the romantic "Latin" language, the sassy music!

The greatest person I have ever known was a Mexican.
A tiny, elderly lady from Bakersfield.
"Sister Mary!" She was someone I actually knew personally,
right up there with the likes of
"Mother Theresa."
I took my "Preacher" husband-to-be,
to meet "Sister Mary."
She walked us back to her little kitchen.
As we walked past her lean-to bedroom,
"Randall," called my attention to the wood floor.
Beside her small bed, where two deep grooves.
Deep knee shaped notches, in the wood.
Talk about a "prayer warrior!"
The kind who made demons tremble.

Okay!
I can get my "Mac" soaked with tears,
or finish this later.
