THE PRINCESS AND THE COUNTRY BOY
Part II
By, Cheryl Harwell Bailey
Based on Old Testament, I & II Samuel,
Her Royal Highness Princess Michal and David Ben Jesse were newlyweds.
It was not a pre-arranged marriage.
It was a love match, highly unusual for a royal princess,
especially during this time in history.
In fact, it may have been one of the very few in ancient times.
A princess would never be permitted to wed a commoner.
It was a "God," thing!
When "David," killed the giant, it was a supernatural act of God,
putting David in the place for his destiny to unfold.
To become a "Prince of Israel."
To marry into the royal family.
The couple were blissfully happy,
unaware of the Kings growing hatred and jealousy.
All the "Princess," could think about was "David."
She loved and respected her family.
She loved and respected her nation.
But right now all she wanted was "David."
"This is a long way from sleeping on the ground, with a bunch of stinky sheep."
"A soft bed in a palace, and you smell so good!"
"When did you know my Bride, you loved me?" asked David.
"You've had a hold on me from the first moment I saw you!" whispered Michal.
"Your wish is my command David"
"No my lovely, your wish is my command,
Your Royal Highness Princess Michal!"
"Israel" was so pro-marriage,
newlyweds were given paid leave
the entire first year of marriage.
As they were getting to know each other
she hoped to be blessed
with a "baby," within the year.
As her maids readied her bed, Michal could hear Jonathan and David
discussing the architectural plans for the new home. "Hurry up Macie,
I want to get in on this discussion."
Macie wrapped Michal in a robe, as she flew out of her bath and into the parlor.
"Oh Love, you smell so good, is that jasmine or vanilla?"
"Okay, time for big brother to go home," laughed Jonathan.
"See if I come over again this year!"
"I'm thinking I better go home and take my wife for a ride in my chariot."
They sat down in front of the crackling fire, just holding each other.
"You are all mine, all mine, all mine," David whispered in Michal's ear.
"Macie," came out of nowhere,
My lady, the King has a delegation downstairs to arrest Master David!
Suddenly "Princess Michal" was forced to choose in this battle
between the two men she loved most in this world.
"Go David go!"
"Not without you my Bride,"
"You will do me no good, if you are dead!"
"GO! NOW!"
Quick as lightening
Michal had a rope lowering David out the window.
"Someday, somehow, I will come back for you,"shouted her husband.
"I'll make it all up to you my "Bride!"
"Run my Beloved"
"Run!"
Michal and Macie rolled up a small idol, put it under the covers,
placing a make shift wig (made of sheepskin) on the pillow.
As the soldiers burst through the door, Michal spoke softly to them saying,
"David is sick, please don't disturb him, he needs his sleep."
With that they left to report back to the King, as Michal gave a big sigh of relief.
But she knew they would be back.
She hoped against hope her Father's mood would change.
It did not.
It did however give her beloved time.
Time to get away!
"Maybe if I pray every night he will come back to me!"
As David ran like the wind, he thought of "Michal his Bride."
True, he would be no good to her dead!
"I will never understand why the King, hates me so much, I love him."
"What have I ever done except honor and bless him?"
"Who am I, that he would think me a threat?"
Why "Lord," why?
Why "Lord," why?
David was a man after "God's," own heart!
He only wanted to love and obey God.
He had not experienced a single jealous thought.
He ran to the home-place of the Priests of Israel, up in the hills.
"I will look to the hills from whence cometh my help."
They knew fully who "David" was, and his destiny.

"Oh great King, David is in bed, very sick."
"Well, go back and bring him to me, if you must bring the whole bed.
Bring him NOW," screamed King Saul.
"Forget it! I'll do it myself!"
With that, he made his way to their dwelling, and at his arrival marched in to kill David.
Walking over to the bed, pulling back the blankets, the King saw the deception.
Outraged, he turned all his anger on his daughter!
"What in the world has this boy done to you, to make my own child betray me?"
"How could you?"
"Do you not know who I am?"
"Listen to me Michal, I brought you into this world!"
"I hate what you have done."
"I will never trust you again."
Michal trembled, hoping not be be beaten, or worse.
She was not harmed,
but the verbal lashing cut "Michal" to the bone.
She really loved her "Father,"
Why did he have such an evil hatred toward "David?"
Was Father Abraham not the father of them both?
She silently prayed. "God, please melt my Father's cold heart."
The King's heart was indeed cold. He commanded the murder of all the
"Priests" in the hills of "Nob."
But David was long gone.
The days pass with no word from "David."
Weeks!
Months!
Years!
"It is time to give you to another, my daughter."
"He cares nothing for you."
"He left you."
"Your will marry Paltiel!"
"He is a nobleman."
"He is a nobleman."
"Never," replied Princess Michal." I'm already married!"
"You will do as I your King commands."
Though living in the lap of luxury she was
depressed and lonely. Michal halfway believed the lies.
Why had he not sent her some kind of word?
Now she was forced into an unlawful marriage.
Michal did not love Paltiel the way she loved David.
Pal was deeply in love with Michal.
She grew to be content, and have affection for this man.
She needed someone to care about her.
She settled.
How could she ever be happy after "David?"
It was all a bitter sweet memory of young love.
It would be easier if she had died.
This not knowing was torture.
After all these years, still no word.
The rumors made her mad!
The gossip made her wonder if another shared his bed.
She was forced to live with another man.
Not by choice!
She did not love Pal.
She did not give herself to him.
She would not!
She did not love Pal.
She did not give herself to him.
She would not!
How could another woman compare to me.
I am the daughter of the anointed King of Israel.
I am the first love and wife of "David."
Though my life is without "David," I am still the daughter of the "King.
At least I have that!

"David"
He was protected through it all.
He had a family.
He had an army.
He had a home in Hebron.
He never betrayed the King.
He was still a man after God's own heart.
He was still forever the husband of "Michal!"
He hoped she was waiting for him.
Even after all these many years.
Then it happened.
King Saul, he died in battle!
When word reached David he sincerely grieved for his King.
And for his best friend and brother in law, Jonathan, who had also died that day in the battle.
Saul's dynasty continued through another son.Upon his death, six years later Israel was united to fulfill God's destiny.
He had only one condition! To be reunited with Michal!
Now David would keep his promise to Samuel!
Now David would keep his promise to Michal!
Now David would keep his promise to God!
All of Israel waited.
The day so long ago, when the oil flowed down his face mixed with tears.
That day was NOW!
KING
Of
" ISRAEL"
"Leave me alone Macie. I don't want to see him."
"No! I don't care to know what he looks like after all this time."
"But my lady, he has sent his stallion, chariot, and honor guard for you his Queen."
"You are no longer the "Princess!"
"You are the QUEEN!"
"I"m not coming Captain!"
"Your Majesty, I have been ordered by the King of Israel to bring you to the palace."
"By force if necessary!"
As Michal climbed into the chariot, she felt sorry for Penial.
But deep down she was excited.
Penial followed behind weeping.
Once she reached the city, they would never see each other again.
They were not married in the eyes of God.
They had no children.
She was back where she was meant to be.
Now she was "Davids."
She always was!
Soon she entered the city gates,
As she entered the entrance,
she was afraid to face the handsome husband she had tried to stop loving.
A million thoughts went through her mind from the moment she heard he was alive.
Now the moment was upon her.
My lady, allow me to escort you.
As she entered,
There he stood!
David!
He swept her up in his tan muscular arms.
"Oh my Michal, my wife."
"I can't believe this is real, David! You're really here."
A darling little boy ran up and asked "Papa who is she?"
"Absolom, this is "Princess Michael!"
"Michal this is Absolom, one of my sons."
So it's true, thought Michal, he does have another wife.
She noticed he did not introduce her as "Queen Michal."
As they talked Joab entered needing the King's immediate attention,
an emergency situation with the Army.
"My Sweet Michal, may we catch up after you rest a bit and get settled in."
" I will call for you soon."
"Ready yourself for a banquet tonight given in your honor".
He hugged & kissed her lightly on the lips, and left with Joab.
Not the romantic reunion she had dreamed of.
Not just the two of them anymore.
Michal walked as if she were in a daze, following the servants to her quarters.
The atmosphere seemed a bit loose, not as formal as befitting a Palace!
"I think he desperately needs my help Macie, don't you?"
"Yes, my lady, by all means."
I wonder where his mind is.
Is he happy to see me? she pondered.
I have so many questions to ask him.
She was accustomed to having Pals undivided attention 24/7!
It may be a little lonely, being the wife of the King.
She got busy getting beautiful. "Pull out all the stops Macie!"
As her entourage began, Michal exclaimed,
"I'll show these new wives what real royalty looks like."
Still in her twenties, and since she had not born a child as yet, she looked great
BEFORE!
And absolutely stunning,
AFTER!
She felt pretty from head to toe.
Finally the "King sent for her.
When she came down the stairs, he was waiting at the bottom.
They bowed to one another.
"King David" extended his hand.
"Michal" placed her hand in his.
"I think my Royal Wife knows how to do "this!" David whispered in her ear.
Pausing at the door of the Banquet Room,
A booming voice announced!
"May I introduce to you ladies and gentleman,"
Your Majesties,
"THE KING & QUEEN OF ISRAEL"
"His Royal Highness King David"
"King of Israel"
and
"Her Royal Highness Queen Michal"
